Description

An epic Highland romance filled to the brim with passion, adventure, and history, perfect for fans of Lynsay Sands's Highland Brides series, from acclaimed author Mary Wine.Raised by her father and brother, Nareen Grant is strong, confident, well-educated, and skilled with a bow and dagger. But when the family who gave her so much freedom suddenly betrays her, she makes her way to the Highlands alone, and lands straight in the lap of Saer MacLeod… Nareen wants no help from a wild man of the Isles. Nor will she be fooled by the fierce desire she feels for him or his savage kisses.Raised on the rugged Scottish Isles, Saer MacLeod is considered fierce even by Highlander standards. He's enchanted by the independent and headstrong Nareen, but knows that getting distracted by the impulsive lass is a mistake. If she says she can take care of herself, there's no reason he shouldn't believe her―especially after seeing her skill with a dagger. But when an old feud endangers her life, Saer's fascination with her escalates into a ferocious desire to protect her…and claim her for himself.

I gave Mary's story a 4 because I just love her Highland series. As other reviewers stated; this storyline also was not my favorite. I did enjoy reading it and didn't want to put it down, but there came a point when, "enough was enough," already!! I couldn't take Nareen any more. Yes she had been through some awful experiences, but Saer was showing her time after time that he was different, and that he wanted her for more than sex and the sons she could give him.I always find it extremely annoying when an author has to keep repeating what the hero or heroin's hang up is on every other page. I get it, I really do, and don't need it repeated to me to no end. It gets to the point where I feel like it's just a filler technique to make the book longer.I really enjoyed Saer chasing her. Women liked to be chased, and it's fun to play hard to get. I loved the hot sex as well, but it started to become unbelievable for me. I just felt like Nareen couldn't be as stubborn as she was and then jump on Saer every time he flirted with her. I did enjoy her strength and I think I would have liked to have seen her using her dagger more.I have to recommend it because I love the Mary Wine books. This one doesn't necessarily have to be read after all the other books in the series. It's good enough to be read alone.
