Product Description 100% Original. Every tune is different. See for yourselves! Review "I have never seen Dave's Pub quite so filled -- All heads were bobbing along to the grooves, and feet were trying to pound out the same great rhythm of the drums -- Everyone was into it, and with good reason -- I would add a small hint of Phish to their mix of sounds, due to the band's ability to simply jam, especially live -- Go get their albums and try to catch their shows." -- Octavio Ycaza, The Contraband"This is Talent! -- These guys are good songwriters with a lot of heart behind their music -- This trio puts on a wonderfully fun show -- It was amazing." -- Jody Taylor, The Contraband About the Artist Over the past 7 years, the progressive groove rock trio known as Thinking Plyers, has made a name for themselves as one of the most entertaining cutting-edge improv acts on the underground scene. Their non-stop 3+ hour shows are a delightful blend of unique original tunes and obscure covers woven together by fascinating improvisational vamps and topped off by outrageous on-stage antics. This dynamic trio places no limitations on their music, drawing inspiration from J.S. Bach and Miles Davis to Van Morrison and Willie Nelson, and nearly everything in between. Their compositions fuse catchy hooks and abstract lyrics with technical licks and complex song structures to create a high-energy, groovalicious style that is truly their own. Formed in 1993 after meeting in their school-organized jazz band, the members of Thinking Plyers immediately built a deep musical and personal relationship around their love for music and desire to create a new way of writing and playing. Despite warnings from other musicians about going against the mainstream, they began experimenting with musical ideas of their own, ignoring the trends of the alternative and grunge rock scenes that thrived at that time. Although they first found it difficult to find an accepting audience, their determination to defy the rules of pop music eventually landed them praise and afforded them an array of performances at local festivals, school functions, private parties, and even a string of extremely successful band showcases organized and headlined by Thinking Plyers. Now with a an established reputation and a growing demand from their rapidly expanding fan base, the Plyers decided to step up their operation and begin recording and releasing their music.=20 In September of 1998, Thinking Plyers hired local bass guitar wizard and friend Trip Wamsley (formerly of Atomic Opera) to produce their first full-length self-titled CD. The CD was recorded in an exhausting three day session in Trip's living room on ancient recording gear. Despite the limitations of time and money, the project turned out to be quite a success. Following the sessions, Colin headed to North Carolina to study classical guitar at the North Carolina School of the Arts and Paul went to Baton Rouge to pursue his music degree at LSU, with Ryan staying behind to finish up the production of the CD. Though they remained seperated by nearly 1000 miles, the band continued to write and perform on a regular schedule. With the regional success of their first CD, Thinking Plyers geared up for disc number two in June of 1999. After a two-week songwriting retreat in Northern Michigan, they returned home to Lake Charles, Louisiana's Downtown Underground Studio to begin recording. Trip Wamsley returned to the mixing board and a host of guest musicians were invited to spice up the album. With the luxuries of time and updated recording equipment, the band's sophomore effort, Cosmic Romance, showcases a more mature, polished sound, and exhibits the many musical personalities of the band. Since its release in March of 2000, Cosmic Romance has rocked the airwaves of local and college radio stations across the Gulf South and East Coast, including Hartford, Connecticut's WSAM where they were featured as one of The Nation's top up-and-coming independent bands on the DJ Paulie radio show. Once the support dates for Cosmic Romance were wrapped up, Paul and Ryan made a move from Louisiana to Nashville, TN where they are now pursuing various personal and professional interests. Though the band members remain seperated, they are as dedicated as ever to playing their music whenever and wherever possible. When schedules permit, you can find them entertaining audiences throughout the South including Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, and North Carolina where the Plyers headlined the famed Beaux Arts Festival at NCSA in May 1999. These guys just totally rock! They're sound is very similar to that of Phish, another incredible band. This cd captures the pure essence of what really makes up the Thinking Plyers. If you like Phish, Dave Matthews, or even Rush, I would highly advise investing in this album! 1
