I’m a fan of the Midge Ure, (vocals, guitar,) era of Ultravox; “Quartet,” “Rage In Eden,” “Vienna,” etc. This is a strong album from the John Foxx, (guitar, vocals,) era of the band. By this time they had abandoned the punk edge of their music going firmly into New Wave.Ultravox was a British New Wave band that grew out of the punk/glam era and were influenced by artists like Roxy Music, The New York Dolls, David Bowie, and the German industrial band, Kraftwerk. They didn’t have a lot of early success but that changed when they shifted their focus to New Wave. And they did it very, very well. “Quartet” is considered one of the best albums of the 80s. “Systems Of Romance” is the last album that John Foxx is on. It’s a strong album. Not as groundbreaking as the Midge Ure stuff but a pleasant listen nonetheless.
