No Age is double lp compilation of 15 bands playing 20 instrumental songs. There is no overall theme to this except that its fully instrumental and from SST Records releases. Although SST is best known for its punk rock releases from the late 70's to mid 80's (Black Flag, Husker Du, Bad Brains, Sonic Youth, Meat Puppets, just to name to name a few) by the mid to late 80s the label had began putting out mostly experimental music.Contained on here is a diverse collection of music music ranging from avant-garde (Elliot Sharp, Universal Congress Of, Steve Fisk), to surf rock (Lawndale, Pell Mell), to jazz (Scott Colby, Paper Bag), to funk (Frith and Kaiser, Elliot Kaiser), to punk (Gone, Alter-Natives, Black Flag), to metal (Blind Idiot God), to weird 80s music (Glenn Phillips), to tape manipulation (Lee Ranaldo). All with a foot in experimention. Ofcourse none fit nice and neatly into any of the above genres but you get the idea.If you're interested in experimental music and feel like diversifying your collection and hearing bands you've probably never heard before then this is a nice one to pick up.
