Nice story. Decent quality video."A Christmas Romance" is a strange prototype for the modern-day Hallmark Countdown to Christmas films. It has the requisite struggling widow, cute kids, and city-slicker jerk who realizes The True Meaning Of Christmas, but it also has a cruel edge. The male lead isn't just a standard-issue jerk, but a banker who is evicting a farmer from her home on Christmas Eve. The kids aren't just cute, they're also deeply traumatized by the recent death of their father and spend much of the film in mourning. And the widow isn't just stoic and beautiful, she's also justifiably angry and consistently sniping the banker with insults. It's an odd mix. What does work is the movie's bittersweet undercurrent, particularly in a scene with the widow struggling desperately to locate gifts for her kids in her attic. The ending is unconvincing, but at least it leaves room for the characters to grow. This movie is a holiday favorite at our home. The DVD was sealed in cellophane packaging and arrived to us in excellent condition. I can't remember if it shipped in a bubble mailer or a cardboard dvd mailer, but I do remember thinking they took adequate measures to package item in a manner to prevent potential damage from happening during transit. Anyhow, there were no playback issues and we thoroughly enjoyed the movie. This movie has a typical premise for a Christmas romance. A widow who lives on a farm is struggling to pay off her late husband's debt. Through a series of mishaps, mostly dealing with weather, the bank manager who has gone to deliver foreclosure papers ends up stuck at her house on Christmas eve. The rest of the movie becomes a typical fish-out-of-water romance in which the guy ends up seeing the woman's predicament as well as falling in love with her. The ending is fairly predictable. Unfortunately, most of the scenes in the movie are extremely drab and depressing. While this helps play up the poverty aspect, it doesn't leave much charm to add to the Christmas spirit. It makes the whole move feel depressing and without much hope. Also, while the characters seem fairly likable, they don't end up having much chemistry. This is one of those movies where you end up wondering how the two actually fell in love. This is somewhat of an old TV movie, so you can forgive some of the mediocre production quality, but all in all, it's not a very uplifting or happy movie, in spite of the intended happy message. There are plenty of other nice B movies out there that are about Christmas romances. Unless you are a fan of Olivia Newton John, it's probably best to take a pass on this one.I've enjoyed watching this each Christmas for awhile and was quite happy to find it available on DVD.It's a charming story of a young widow trying to make ends meet and the banker who arrives just prior to Christmas to foreclose on her home. The story revolves around him getting stuck at her house in a snowstorm and coming to know her and the children. She's clueless about finances and he has to learn about caring for others instead of finances.Okay, it's a corny Christmas movie but it is the kind of story that warms the heart and we can use those stories all through the year. It's also the kind of movie you can pop in the DVD player with the kids and a bowl of popcorn to enjoy as a family.Love this movie! Having some difficulty playing it but I'm inclined to believe that it's my CD drive on my laptop and not the DVD itself. Glad I bought it.A fairly simple plot; i.e., semi-snob becomes stranded with humble widow and her two children in a snowstorm. Yet, the manner in which the story unfolds is quite entertaining and the two kids tend to steal the show at times. This is a "family" movie with a few little twists and turns. I found it to be a pleasant diversion and thus I enjoyed it. If you like good acting and happy endings, you'll most likely feel good about watching this film.Olivia. Being a fan for the past 45 years, I had been watching Xmas movies and thought about hers.I just love this film and it comes out every Christmas. It brings out the 'cosy' in me !Love this film, a really feel good movie.. seen it a couple of times on tv, so fancied buying it to watch whenever i felt like it.I hate to say it, because I like Olivia, but her acting in this is something to be desired. She is soooooo wooden, not only in her verbal expressions, but physically too. The little girl who plays her eldest daughter is wonderful in comparison. I did watch it until the end; but now it's making its way to the charity shop....Everything went as planned: the item arrived in time and in excellent condition.Exactly what I wanted for the birthday present
